Passing on a Note from a Friend

To our dear family and friends,

We are writing this letter with great joy to share with you our exciting news, our hopes and plans for our future, and to let you know what God has been doing in our lives and laying on our hearts. :)

Over the past (almost 2, can you believe it?) years that we've been married (and really even years before) we have felt God continually putting adoption heavily on our hearts. We have asked Him to take this desire away if it's not from Him, and each time it has only grown stronger. There are an estimated 148 MILLION orphans in the world today, and that realization has been overwhelming to us. God has brought this verse in James to our minds many times."Religion that is pure and undefiled before God, the Father, is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world." (James 1:27)

For the past almost two years we have spent a lot of time praying, reading, researching, saving, educating ourselves on the different types of adoption, and talking to people who have adopted. At first we started by looking into International Adoption, but it soon became clear that this door is closed to us right now since the process is more expensive, complicated, and we do not yet meet the age requirements. This was very discouraging at first, but then we turnedour attention to Domestic Adoption and soon realized that there areso many children that need loving homes right here in this country.

Please Pray for Mary and Hosana

The other day, Mary said Hosana is up to 4 lbs. and the stuffiness and congestion had cleared up. Yay!
Today, she said Hosana is 4 lbs. and 6 oz! That little bitty girlie is growing just as fast as she possibly can! It has been amazing to have just the little glimpse I've had into the miracle of her life. Mary sent a note tonight, and I think she showed much wisdom in just giving the facts and asking for prayer. I will follow her example, and share her note with you and leave it at that. Please do join in prayer...

A Benjamin Update

Hi there! I've heard a little more about Benjamin the last couple of days, so I want to pass it on to you, and thank you for praying for this family! Most of my communication with them is on Facebook- it's got a quicker "check" and a quicker "back and forth" than email, so I'm able to do it more often :o)

A Benjamin Update

Here's the latest word(s) I've been getting on Benjamin and his family. These are compiled from his mother's (Rachel's) Facebook page. I cannot imagine facing the journey and the decisions this dear family has been. Truly, our Father gives abundant strength and grace, just as we need it! So often we say "I couldn't do that" (notice I said I can't *imagine* it - I know I could go anywhere He takes me, but being able to forsee it and make a plan of action is what I can't do. And that's a good thing.), but things like this remind me that it's in our weakness that His strength is shown. I'm guessing Rachel doesn't feel like some invincible supermama, but who can refrain from being in awe at the peace and joy that God gives that NO earthly trial can rob us of? Anyway, enough of my ramblings... here's her updates:

Today, I let the children watch "Why, Charlie Brown, Why?". It's a Charlie Brown special about Linus making friends with a little girl who goes through being diagnosed with and treated for leukemia. It was a great way to explain to the younger ones about Benjamin, our friend's son, who started chemotherapy this past week. I tend to really get into schoolteacher mode sometimes, and "overexplain" things, and I didn't want to make this one a bore for them. It really "took", and even Rex remembered to pray for Benjamin tonight at supper. :0)

The Funeral

Here is a link to a news story about the funeral for my friends. We were hoping and actually planning to go, right up until it was time to start packing the van... Then something unavoidable hindered us.
I was/am disappointed, and I really wish I could have been there, to hug my friends who are left, and who are hurting, but I am also truly resting contentedly and peacefully in knowing that my Father is perfect, that all things are in His control, there are no surprises for Him. It wasn't His plan for us to go, and that's OK with me. I trust Him, and I don't need to know the whys and the why nots. I am so grateful to know Him, and to not have to figure things out, but to just be His child and obey.
He is good.
